Strengthened inspections in the capital to the harmful emissions from the automobiles are about to begin. The Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Anguel Popov, the Deputy Minister of Interior Stefan Balabanov, the Executive Director of EA “Automobile Administration” Krasimir Kalaydjiev and the Head of the Traffic Police Department with the Sofia Interior Ministry Directorate Commissioner Tencho Tenev agreed on that.
During the meeting, measures have been identified to improve the control of the automobiles in Sofia for the presence of higher levels of harmful emissions and noise. Commissioner Tencho Tenev said that every month there are about 14,000 automobiles registered in the capital. The initial roadworthiness testing is carried out at the registration point in Sofia where it is necessary the existing equipment to be replaced, which is already obsolete and inefficient, he added.
The joint inspections will be performed also on the road by teams of the Automobile Administration and Traffic Police. At the present stage, the two institutions have a small number of opacimeters, gas analyzers and noise meters, so it is necessary to seek financing for the purchase of additional devices, said the Deputy Minister Anguel Popov. According to him, the control will be tightened over the technical checkpoints. Work is underway on introducing a centralized system for controlling, processing and storing technical review data, which will reduce the influence of the subjective factor on site measurements, he added.
