Within the day, a plan for the reorganisation of the movement of trains travelling through Sofia and Sofia-North stations should be made. This was ordered by the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov during a meeting today with BDZ and NKZI in connection with the long delays of trains in Sofia in recent days.
Minister Gvozdeykov instructed to remove all difficulties and to switch to normal traffic regime by Monday at the latest. ‘Provide the railway stations with teams to give timely information and to assist in the organisation of the movement of passengers’, Gvozdeykov said.
The two companies informed the Minister that all options are being considered to change the timetable so that rail passengers are not left without transport despite the restrictions due to the maintenance work. Since the beginning of the week, the most active phase of the repair of the tracks at the Central Railway Station in Sofia has started, which includes a number of activities and this is the reason for the difficulties. BDZ stressed that when introducing the new traffic organisation on 7 May, the aim was not to shorten trains, but the timetable was to be optimised to a minimum.
