The purchase of another 10 new electric locomotives will contribute to a more efficient train timetable. This was announced by the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov during the signing of a contract for the delivery of ten locomotives — the latest generation ‘Smartron’ by Siemens. Thus the total number of locomotives of this series in the country will reach 25.
‘Technologies in this sector are developing very dynamically and we have to keep up with the times,’ Minister Gvozdeykov explained. He added that the acquisition of the new ten locomotives will eliminate the daily shortage of locomotives, which has seriously hampered the normal implementation of the train schedule.
The contract for the delivery of the new ten locomotives was signed by Ventsislav Slavkov, Manager of BDZ-Passenger Transport EOOD and the managers of the contractor company DZZD Siemens Tron Kalin Ivanov and Milena Momerin. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Biser Minchev, the management of Holding BDZ EAD, and others.
The contract ‘Delivery and warranty maintenance of 10 newly manufactured mainline electric locomotives for the needs of BDZ — Passenger Transport EOOD’ has a term of 48 months, with the first locomotive expected to be delivered within 18 months and the remaining nine within the 24th month of the contract. Its value is BGN 91.2 million excluding VAT, and the contractor is DZZD Siemens Tron.
