The restoration of the facade of the Ministry of Transport and Communications on 9 "Deacon Ignatius" Str., which restored its authentic appearance from 100 years ago, has ended.
The building is part of the archaeological reserve "Ancient Serdica and Medieval Sredets". It was built at the beginning of the 20th century on the site of the house of the Bulgarian politician and public figure Petko Karavelov. The reception room of Karavelov while he was a minister and prime minister of Bulgaria was here.
After Karavelov's house was sold by his heirs, the current building was built on the order of the owners of Balkan Bank.
The building is one of the examples of the classical for the beginning of the 20th century architectural style "Secession". The facade is clad in limestone and is rich in architectural and decorative elements that include stone sculptures of warriors, floral elements, symbols of eternity, as well as more contemporary decorations that relate to industry, commerce, transportation, logistics and prosperity.
The preservation and renovation of BGN 917 826 were financed from the budget of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
