France is one of the countries in Europe with the most developed rail transport and we will borrow experience and good practices in this area. This was said by the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of France H. E. Joel Meyer.
They discussed the state of the railway sector and the Bulgarian government's plans for its development in the short term. ‘In 2026 our country will have its own modern trains, but to provide a better service until then we plan to hire several trains to run on the main routes,’ Minister Gvozdeykov stressed. He added that talks with companies from different countries were to be held to explore possible options. Ambassador Meyer said he was ready to cooperate and stressed upon the good cooperation of the French companies that operate successfully on the territory of Bulgaria and implement projects in the transport sector.
Minister Gvozdeykov and the French Ambassador also commented on the future construction of a second bridge over the Danube river at Ruse. ‘This facility is extremely important both for Bulgaria and Romania and for the connectivity of the whole region, especially in the geopolitical environment we are in,’ Ambassador Meyer said. Minister Gvozdeykov specified that by the end of August a work plan between Bulgaria and Romania is expected to be prepared and the next step is to sign an agreement for the construction of the bridge.
During the meeting the French ambassador assured Minister Gvozdeikov that the country supports Bulgaria's accession to Schengen and the euro area.
