Agreement on cooperation in the technical maintenance of the fairway of the Danube River between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Serbia was signed today in Belgrade by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bulgaria in Belgrade Petko Doykov and the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia Tomislav Momirovich.
Signing of the document emphasizes the positive direction of Bulgarian-Serbian relations and their deepening through legal acts. During the ceremony, it became clear that the two countries are making efforts to improve transport connectivity with one another and in other directions, such as the facilitation of cross-border traffic, the construction and modernization of the road and railway infrastructure connecting them, the construction of an intermodal terminal in Dimitrovgrad, as well as the overall improvement of the conditions for traffic passing through their territory, having significance for pan-European transport connectivity.
The navigability of the Danube River at the current moment of instability and uncertainty of energy supplies in Europe is of particular importance to ensure trouble-free navigation and supply on the Danube River, as it is an important European navigation artery and is part of the main Trans-European Transport Corridor Rhine-Danube.
The document provides for cooperation in the technical maintenance of the section of the Danube River, which is the responsibility of the Republic of Bulgaria, in the critical for navigation sectors of the fairway in the section between km 610 and km 375.
For this purpose, the Bulgarian side will provide the necessary technical documentation for the dredging, as well as the performance of control hydrographic measurements. The two specialized administrations are yet to determine the specific joint actions to facilitate navigation in the critical sections, some of which are already being worked on, also with the assistance of the Romanian side.
