The digital sector is one of the fastest growing in Bulgaria and we are in the top 10 countries with the fastest mobile internet in the world. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Grigori Grigorov, who represented Bulgaria in the high-level panel within the Council of the International Telecommunication Union. The event took place from 7 to 11 July 2023 in Zheneva.
‘Our main goal is to achieve gigabit connectivity by 2030 with all locations covered by 5G. An important priority is the development of infrastructure in remote and sparsely populated areas, as there is a lag in the use of the Internet and all related services,’ the deputy minister said.
Grigori Grigorov stressed that the development of new technologies as a tool for economic and social growth is also a major task. An example is the high-performance supercomputer located in Sofia Tech Park. It is available to the research community, as well as to private and public users.
The Bulgarian representative at the forum pointed out that strengthening confidence in internet connectivity will stimulate the launch of new business models, increase the competitiveness of the local economy and ensure social cohesion in sparsely populated and remote areas.
