The construction of an open-air car park at Sofia Airport Terminal 2, which will provide 1000 new parking spaces, has started. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Anna Natova during the start of the construction works. She pointed out that once this project is completed, the long-awaited overhaul of the covered parking lot will begin.
"With the construction of all the car parks, the total number of parking spaces will increase to 1,800. This will ensure better service to passengers and guests at Sofia Airport," Deputy Minister Natova said. She stressed that these projects are part of the first five-year investment plan that the concessionaire has to implement by the end of 2025, with total investments for this period amounting to 143 million leva. “By the end of last year the concessionaire had invested 54 million leva, and this year the funds are 49 million leva,” Natova added.
The Deputy Minister said he expected the airport operator to maintain the good pace of implementation of the investment programme. "The implementation of the planned projects will turn Sofia Airport into a modern, competitive and preferred European airport," said Anna Natova.
The event was also attended by the CEO of SOF Connect Jesús Caballero, the Mayor of Slatina district Georgi Iliev, representatives of Sofia Municipality and the contractor.
