After the construction of the last 9 metro stations on the third line of the Sofia metro, car traffic will decrease by over 17,000 cars per day. This is what Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Neli Andreeva said at the opening of the conference "Strategic Infrastructure and Investment 2021". According to her, the project is included in the Recovery and Resilience Plan and has the support of the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications. The expected additional benefits of the project are for 26 million transported passengers per year and reduction of harmful emissions by over 7,000 tons per year.
"The concept of the European Commission for the implementation of the so-called Green Deal requires serious measures for efficient use of resources and reduction of pollution. Bulgaria shares the European ambition and perspective for stimulating the sustainable modes of transport and makes efforts for accelerated development of the railway sector", Deputy Minister Andreeva said.
"In recent years, many projects have been implemented in the railway sector, as a result of which more than 500 km of railways have been modernized, an intermodal terminal has been built near Plovdiv, a number of railway station complexes have been rehabilitated and new locomotives are currently being delivered", Neli Andreeva said and added that the priorities for the new programming period were again related to the implementation of a large-scale program of railway projects.
The road safety investments foreseen in the Recovery and Resilience Plan are related to the integration of low-emission or zero-emission urban transport vehicles, the construction of electric charging stations for urban transport vehicles and infrastructure measures for safe urban mobility aimed at the vulnerable participants in the traffic - pedestrians and cyclists", Neli Andreeva added.
