The Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications takes very seriously the road safety problem. This was said by Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Anguel Popov during the road safety conference “Peace Treaty for the Bulgarian Roads”. In his words, the increasing number of victims and people affected by car accidents is a serious problem that has to be resolved in a determined way.
Deputy Minister Anguel Popov said that Bulgaria has one of the most modern electronic systems for the theoretical examinations control and currently there are no indication for abuses. He announced that one-off attempts are being made at circumvent the system by people who come up with false ID cards to take the exam instead of other candidates, so far we have about 26 such cases and all have been handed over to the Ministry of Interior. We are also working on tightening the control over the practical exams and training for the candidate drivers by implementing up-to-date technique and systems, he added.
The Deputy Minister announced that a project is being prepared for the integration of software for control, processing and storage of the roadworthiness inspection data. It will allow for the real-time transfer of the values from the devices at the technical points to the Centralized Information System. It will automatically determine the validity of the inspection, which will improve the control and the work of the staff at the points.
Regarding the achievement of better results in the roadside control, Deputy Minister Anguel Popov said that an electronic system project is going to be implemented. It will have an automated opportunity to recognize the registration numbers, make quick inquiries, to issue punitive decrees in Bulgarian and in foreign languages; verification of digital tachograph cards in the Tachonet system; keeping track of the inspections made and other functionalities.
