All contracts with contractors to build the first stage of the third metro line have been signed, stated Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Lubomir Hadjiysky at a ceremony to launch the activity of the tunnel boring machine that will construct the third beam of Sofia metro.
Deputy Minister Lubomir Hadjiysky said that this is the most complicated section of the metro that passes through downtown and reaches the quarter of Ovcha Kupel. "Since the first programming period OP on "Transport" is financially involved in the construction of metro stations with over a billion BGN and these are one of the best invested resources with fast and quality results, visible for all citizens and guests of the city", he said. The Deputy Minister added that for the current programming period in OP on "Transport and transport infrastructure" are provided another 685 million BGN and in 2019 the distance from Ovcha kupel to downtown can be taken within 10 minutes by metro.
Lubomir Hadjiysky pointed out that by similar projects we prove that we are part of modern Europe and Sofia is a European capital with integrated urban transport - fast, environmentally friendly and convenient in all parts of the city.
