We are working to improve cross-border links with Greece and the region, including both road and rail connectivity. This is what the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Anna Natova said during the Southeast Europe Connectivity Forum, which is taking place yesterday and today in Thessaloniki.
"The construction of the railway line from Sofia to Kulata is one of the areas we are actively working on," Deputy Minister Anna Natova pointed out. The Bulgarian state is currently carrying out the design of the Sofia-Pernik-Radomir railway line and is ready to start the preparation of the last section between Radomir and Kulata. A possible funding option for the project is the INTERREG Bulgaria - Greece 2021-2027 programme.
"In the area of road infrastructure we continue the projects for the construction of the Ruse - Veliko Tarnovo highway and the completion of the Struma highway. Their construction will contribute to improving North-South ties, which are becoming increasingly important in today's environment," the Deputy Minister added.
Anna Natova explained that for the past two programming periods Bulgaria has made serious progress in the absorption of EU funds for the development of transport connectivity. "We need to increase the pace in this direction in order to catch up with our partners in the European Union," Deputy Minister Natova said.
