Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Nikolay Naydenov transferred the mandate of the Chairmanship of TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission (TRACECA) to Georgia. The organization's sixteenth annual meeting is being held in Tbilisi, Georgia.
The Bulgarian government has focused its efforts on building modern road and railway infrastructure along the "East-West" axis in order to create favourable conditions for the seamless movement of people and goods, Nikolay Naydenov said during the forum. "We worked to improve cross-border traffic with neighboring countries that are also TRACECA members. For example, 190,000 more vehicles were processed through the border crossing points between Bulgaria and Turkiye in 2022 compared to 2021. These results have also impact of the transit of goods along the TRACECA corridor", he added.
During the meeting in Georgia, the leaders of the transport sector in the Member States adopted the reports on the implementation of the Action Plan for the implementation of the Strategy of the Intergovernmental Commission. A concept of a "hotline" at border crossings was discussed. The aim is to facilitate border crossing for international road freight transport on TRACECA routes, by providing information on obstacles that have arisen, providing advice on resolving border crossing problems by participants in transport operations. The concept also includes issues related to the facilitation of multimodal transport across the Black and Caspian Seas.
The TRACECA intergovernmental commission was created with the aim of developing the Europe-Caucasus-Asia international corridor.
