With investments in transport infrastructure Bulgaria has the potential to become a multimodal hub between Europe and Asia, said Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Velik Zanchev during the Second International High-Level Conference "Europe-Asia Integrated Transport Corridors ", which is held today in Odessa, Ukraine.
During the event under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Grossman Deputy Minister Zanchev acquainted delegates with the investments made in the transport infrastructure of Bulgaria in the recent years, as well as with the forthcoming projects in the sector. The main emphasis in his speech was the introduction of intelligent traffic management systems, their upcoming upgrading and the construction of the traffic towers in our Black Sea ports of Varna and Bourgas.
In Odessa Deputy Minister Zanchev held working meetings with Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Victor Dovgan and Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania Ričardas Degutis respectively.
Viktor Dovgan informed Velik Zanchev on the forthcoming concession of the Chernomorsk ferry complex, which was the reason for them both to discuss the benefits of this financial instrument and the opportunities for investment via it. Among the topics discussed were the ferryboat line between the two countries, the conduct of an expert meeting with representatives of the European Commission, Romania, Greece, Ukraine and Bulgaria on joint transport projects with European co-funding as well as other current issues of mutual interest.
With his colleague Ričardas Degutis Deputy Minister Zanchev discussed the forthcoming Bulgarian presidency of the EU and in particular the Mobility Package.
