If the concessionaire of Sofia Airport does not start working as promised in the technical offer, there will be no compromise. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policies and Minister of Transport and Communications Hristo Alexiev in response to journalists’ questions.
He confirmed that the European Commission had comments on the security of Sofia Airport. "This is the concessionaire's commitment. Two weeks ago I had a meeting with the representatives of the concessionaire of Sofia Airport and the President of Munich Airport, who are in the consortium on this issue. They committed themselves very seriously to solving security issues and quality of service", Deputy Prime Minister Alexiev said.
In his words, very serious measures were being taken at the moment under the pressure of the State – the employees were being trained, and additional equipment was being provided. "Let's hope that the comments will be removed during the upcoming inspection by the European Commission. If this does not happen, the State will take the strictest measures against this negligence. We got to the point where the concessionaire, who was supposed to manage the airport better, clearly underestimated the security there", Hristo Alexiev commented. He clarified that the contract provided for major sanctions and if the non-fulfillment continued, termination of the concession could be taken.
