I support any initiative that would improve the safety of taxi drivers. This is what Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov stated during a meeting with representatives of the taxi industry. ‘Not only as a minister, but also as a consumer, I stand by the industry's position to improve the safety of drivers,‘ Deputy Prime Minister Karadzhov noted. He expressed readiness to have talks with all competent institutions to find a functioning mechanism for this purpose.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that tackling the unauthorised carriage of passengers is also an issue on which he is starting to work together with the other responsible institutions, studying the European experience as well.
The industry requested that the deadline for taxi vehicles to pass a technical inspection be changed. According to the current legislation, taxi vehicles undergo a technical inspection every 6 months, including new vehicles. The Transport Minister stressed that this issue would be analysed in detail in the short term.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov ordered to immediately start work on the other requests of the taxi industry, which are within the competence of the Ministry and the Executive Agency Automobile Administration.
