Designing of the city railway in Plovdiv will start promptly. This became clear during the visit of the Minister of Transport and Communications Nikolay Sabev in the largest economic zone in Plovdiv – Trakia.
45,000 people go to work every morning in private or company cars, and this is making it increasingly difficult to get around the city. Rail transport has good preconditions to offer an alternative, but so far the low frequency of the served routes, as well as the limited rolling stock have not allowed improvement in this direction.
With the funds already approved by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, we will provide modern zero-emission rolling stock, and the acquisition of trains must coincide with the completion of the railway line. The Regional Governor is about to send letters to the Mayors of the Municipalities and to the Industrial Zones around the city to present a plan for the places of the stops, as the idea is for them to form city junctions that combine several modes of transport, Nikolay Sabev explained.
The construction of the Plovdiv Railway Junction is underway, and the new Operational Program includes the second phase of the project, which will provide modern and interoperable infrastructure, the Minister added.
