Dirk Pergott is the new Director General of State Enterprise "Port Infrastructure". He was appointed by order of the Minister of Transport and Communications pending a competition for the post. The state-owned enterprise, which is responsible for the management and maintenance of Bulgarian ports, is for the first time headed by a foreign national. This is part of the policy of Minister Georgi Gvozdeykov for professionalisation in the management of state assets, as the guiding principle in the selection of the governing body is experience and expertise in the relevant field.
Pergott is a Belgian national and has over 20 years of experience in port management and port operations. He has managed projects in the ports of Antwerp (Belgium), Gdansk (Poland), Alexandroupolis (Greece), Kavala (Greece), as well as in the Bulgarian ports of Varna-West and Beloslav. He has extensive expertise in start-up development, strategic planning, marketing, transportation and logistics. He has held management positions in international companies such as Euroports Group, Van Moer Logistics, ADM - Amylum Group, etc.
Dirk Pergott holds a Master's degree from Ghent University, Belgium, and a Port Management Specialisation (Harbour Master) from LLyod's Maritime Academy, London. He is fluent in English, Dutch, Bulgarian, French and German.
