The expansion of the port infrastructure of Burgas is of strategic importance for the economic development of the city, the Black Sea region and the European economy. This was said by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Zhivko Petrov at an event on the occasion of the completion of the project "Black Sea Gateway to the Orient/Eastern Mediterranean Main Corridor".
"Feasibility studies, environmental and economic analysis, conceptual and technical design for the expansion of port terminals Burgas East-2 and Burgas West have been made. All this was implemented with funding from the Connecting Europe Facility", the Deputy Minister recalled.
The deputy minister stressed that preparations for the construction of new facilities, a new deep-water shipping berth and a site for handling and storing general cargo and containers, will significantly improve the infrastructure of the two terminals. According to him, the construction of the infrastructure will increase the capacity and throughput of the two terminals. This will provide an opportunity to attract a higher volume of cargo, optimise processes within the port and improve the quality of services.
"BMF Port Burgas" EAD and the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and Environment (CINEA) signed in October 2021 a Grant Agreement for the implementation of the project "Black Sea Gateway to the Orient/Eastern Mediterranean Main Corridor".
The project is worth €1 172 000, 85% of which is provided by the Connecting Europe Facility. The remainder of the investment was financed with the company's own funds.
