I am committed to ensuring that transport workers have better working conditions and decent pay. This is what the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov said during a meeting with representatives of the Confederation of Labour ‘Podkrepa’.
Regarding the Executive Agency ‘Road Transport Administration’, Minister Gvozdeykov pointed out that an option is being sought to increase the salaries of the employees this year. ‘We are exploring legal options for salary increases, and this will be in line with the funds available in the agency's budget for this year. For 2024 we will also identify concrete steps to increase salaries,’ Minister Gvozdeykov added.
The Minister said that he had commissioned an analysis of the agency's work, which would be part of the upcoming reforms. ‘The law is the same for everyone and whoever allows themselves to tolerate specific companies and to carry out unregulated actions against them will bear the consequences,’ Gvozdeykov was adamant.
The talks between the representatives of the trade union and the management of the Executive Agency ‘Road Transport Administration’ will continue on Thursday, when the problems and the options for their solution will be discussed in detail.
Regarding the railway sector, Minister Georgi Gvozdeykov pointed out that Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) needs to make a lot of efforts urgently to improve the service offered and to manage resources efficiently.
‘We need to seriously change the working conditions at BDZ so that the workers are satisfied with their jobs, not only because they enjoy being railway workers, but also because they have decent pay and a better working environment,’ the Minister of Transport said. He pointed out that good practices would be maintained, with a focus on cleaning up mistakes and working more on clear and actionable objectives.
