From the beginning of 2027, the residents of four more districts will have a convenient and fast connection to the metro, and the construction of this section will relieve traffic in one of the busiest directions in Sofia. This was announced by the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov at the launch of the project for the extension of the third line of the Sofia metro.
‘Under the OP ‘Transport and Transport Infrastructure’, the funding provided for this project is BGN 106 million , with which the total funds for the construction of the metro in Sofia during this programming period exceed BGN 880 million ’,Georgi Gvozdeykov said. He explained that in the last few months much effort has been made to negotiate this funding with the European Commission. ‘As we are at the end of the programming period, I hope that with the full mobilisation of the contractors these funds will be effectively used by the end of the year,’ Gvozdeykov added.
‘Sofia continues to develop at a rapid pace and deserves all these investments,’ the transport minister said and pointed out that the metro is the greenest and most environmentally friendly transport, to which more and more passengers in the capital should switch.
Mayor of Sofia Vasil Terziev explained that this is an important and awaited project, which has a bearing on how 75 000 citizens of Sofia will get around more efficiently. ‘The development of urban transport is a central theme and we will continue to invest in the metro,’ he said.
