Grozdan Karadzhov: We are preparing the concession of Plovdiv Airport

We are planning to launch a concession procedure for Plovdiv Airport. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov during a meeting with the aviation industry. “There should be more business and less state in our aviation. I am a supporter of the idea that the aviation business should take over the management of Plovdiv Airport and invest in its development not only as a civil airport, but also as a cargo airport. Concession analyses are to be carried out regarding the procedure with relevant conclusions and recommendations,” said Grozdan Karadzhov. He stressed that the airports in Bulgaria should be granted on concession, as is the European experience, and not be maintained by the state.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that another important policy for his team is easing the administrative burdens for businesses. “The DG Civil Aviation Administration is working on digitising all administrative services and this process will be completed soon. Aviation is a dynamic sector and saving time and money is essential for its development,” Grozzdan Karadzhov noted.

During the talks, other important issues were discussed related to the training of aviation personnel, the infrastructure and organization of apron access in the northern region of Sofia Airport, the development of a legislative framework for drones, the development of small airports, etc.
