Investments at Sofia Airport will be accelerated. This became clear after a meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Hristo Alexiev with the Chief Executive Officer of the Meridiam Fund and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of "SOF Connect" Thierry Déau and the Ambassador of France Joel Meyer.
The possibilities for developing common transport projects of mutual interest were discussed. A commitment was made that the operator of Munich Airport, which is a partner of the concessionaire "SOF Connect", will have a more active role in the Sofia Airport development project.
Deputy Prime Minister Hristo Alexiev raised the issue of airport security. For his part, Thierry Déau said that the concessionaire had taken the necessary measures to ensure the security and safety of the capital's airport and to avoid any lapses in the future. He expressed his willingness to work towards turning Sofia Airport into an aviation hub for the region.
In turn, the Ambassador of France, Joel Meyer, emphasized the importance of improving regional connectivity and not disrupting supply chains. In this regard, he stated that a third bridge over the Danube River, between Bulgaria and Romania, would be of great importance for achieving these goals and that he was committed to providing the necessary support in favor of accelerating the project.
