Improving regional infrastructure connectivity along the North-South route will not only ensure an alternative and cheaper route for goods, but will also cater for the increasing travel and trade between Bulgaria, Romania and Greece following our country's entry into Schengen. This is what the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov said at a meeting with the US ambassadors in Athens George Tsunis and in Sofia Kenneth Merten.
Minister Gvozdeykov underlined the importance of the declaration adopted during the Tripartite Meeting of the Heads of Government of Bulgaria, Greece and Romania, held in October 2023 in Euxinovgrad, by which the three countries declared their desire to develop a North-South transport corridor. The corridor will provide better multimodal connectivity between the Black Sea and Aegean ports and will be a good alternative to crossing the Black Sea and the Bosphorus, especially at times of high congestion, Georgi Gvozdeykov added.
The joint project submitted by the Bulgarian and Romanian side for the exploratory works of a second bridge structure at Ruse-Giurgiu under the Connecting Europe Facility was also discussed.
