Bulgaria and China will work to build on cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations in the field of transport and communications. This was confirmed today at a meeting between the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China H.E. Dai Qingli.
"Our main priority is the modernization of the railway transport in the country and a significant financial resource is foreseen in this direction under the RDP," Minister Gvozdeykov said during the talks. He stressed that Bulgaria can draw experience from the pace at which China is developing in the field of high-speed railway infrastructure and new technologies. Minister Gvozdeykov highlighted Bulgaria's role as a strategic point in the Black Sea and the importance of the development of maritime transport in this context.
H.E. Dai Qingli said that during her mandate in Bulgaria she will work on the same priorities in the field of transport. Strengthening cooperation between the two countries in rail freight and multimodal transport is crucial for connectivity between Europe and Asia, Ambassador Dai Qingli further said. She informed that at the end of July 2024 a Bulgarian airline has received permission from the Chinese authorities to operate 4 cargo flights per week from China to Sofia. The possibility of opening a direct air route between the two countries was also discussed.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and China. In this regard, Minister Gvozdeikov said that the two countries have a solid basis on which to continue to develop good cooperation in the field of transport and communications.
