Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov participates in the meeting of the Council of the European Union on Transport, Telecommunications and Energy, format "Transport", held in Luxembourg, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
During the forum, EU ministers adopted a common approach on the proposal for a Regulation on the European Maritime Safety Agency and a Directive on river information services. Minister Gvozdeykov noted that the final revised text of the two proposals fully achieves the set objectives, while preserving the necessary level of flexibility for Member States.
In the field of rail transport, ministers discussed a regulation on the use of railway infrastructure capacity in the single European railway area. "Bulgaria fully supports a more efficient and flexible framework for rail capacity allocation. Our efforts are focused on the renewal of rolling stock, as well as the optimisation and completion of railway infrastructure. These are priority activities that will make rail transport attractive for travellers," said Minister Gvozdeykov.
The meeting discussed the proposal to amend Council Directive 92/106/EEC on combined transport. Minister Gvozdeykov outlined Bulgaria's position on reducing the permissible road sections by introducing a maximum or flexible threshold, in line with the area of the EU member state and its geographical position.
