Many transport companies are still waiting for their meaningful reforms and are in urgent need of modernisation. We are opening a dialogue with experts and trade unions in different areas to jointly seek the best solutions and solve the problems that have accumulated over the years. This was said by the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Gvozdeykov during a meeting with the President of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (KNSB) Plamen Dimitrov and representatives of the trade union organization.
Minister Gvozdeykov presented his team and outlined the main tasks they will work on in the short and medium term. ‘The two biggest issues in front of us are Bulgarian Post and the Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ). The recovery of the postal operator goes through the restructuring plan of the company, which we are already working on,’ Minister Gvozdeykov said. At yesterday's meeting of the Council of Ministers, the aid for Bulgarian Posts was approved in the amount of BGN 50 million. ‘Every lev spent from this aid will be under my scrutiny and I will monitor whether the funds are being used effectively to revive the company, which is in a very dire state,’ the transport minister was adamant.
In the railway sector, analyses are needed to identify the best model for the management of the Bulgarian State Railways. ‘As a first step, we will determine how well the holding structure is working and whether it does not bring more costs than it gives efficiency to processes and decisions,’ Minister Gvozdeykov explained. He added that investment in infrastructure and rolling stock renewal are two processes that need to run in parallel and it is very important what will be achieved before 2026.
Today's meeting was attended by Deputy Ministers Anna Natova, Biser Minchev, Dimitar Nedyalkov and Grigori Grigorov. From the side of the KNSB in the talks participated Todor Kapitanov, Petar Bunev and Lyuboslav Kostov.
Earlier in the week, Minister Gvozdeykov also held talks with the trade unions of the KNSB and the Confederation of Labour ‘Podkrepa’ in Bulgarian Post EAD. There was a general view that changes to the governance and organisational structure would be discussed in dialogue. During the meeting Minister Gvozdeykov said that the company has sufficient resources and has potential for development. ‘We are concerned, we are responsible and we will do our best to change the business model of Bulgarian Post’, the Minister stressed
