Bulgaria considers the automation of road transport as part of the digital revolution, said Ivaylo Moskovski, Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, during the Second High-Level Dialogue on Connected and Automated Driving, which is being carried out today in Frankfurt, Germany.
During the meeting Minister Ivaylo Moskovski said that it is becoming increasingly frequent practice for new vehicles to be fitted with standard equipment for facilitating and supporting drivers. In his words the Bulgarian side shares the idea of introducing automated transport systems to support the organization of traffic and to increase traffic safety. In this regard, our country supports large-scale and cross-border tests of connected and automated driving so that uniform standards to be adopted, he added.
The Minister informed the participants that Bulgaria is planning to construct an electronic toll collection system. "We will explore the possibility of using the infrastructure of this system for the needs of connected vehicles," he said. Upon the construction of the system and with funding provided, cross-border tests will be carried out, both for interoperability with neighboring countries and for connected vehicles. We rely on shared experience from other EU Member States to help us constuct and operate such effective networks.
