We extend the concession procedure of Sofia Airport until January 31, 2017, said the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski, in relation to the remarks made today by a group of MPs concerning a termination of the concession of Sofia Airport. In his words, the reason for the extension ot the deadline is due to a request made by one of the largest airport operators in Europe.
This will enable the next government decide whether to proceed with the concession of the capital's airport, said Minister Moskovski. He added that the concession of the airport was not an end in itself of the current government. With the advance payment, which is minimum 650 million BGN , is planned to be repaid the debt of BDZ which is below 500 million BGN, while the remaining funds will be invested in locomotives and wagons.
Those who are in favor of the termination of the concession should clearly explain from where will be provided the necessary resources for BDZ, said Minister Moskovski. He pointed out that it is not appropriate the debt of the company to be paid by taking a state loan, which to be paid by all taxpayers. The concession is the only way that we could rehabilitate BDZ, he added.
