The Minister of Transport and Communications Nikolay Sabev asked for assistance from the Ministry of Interior for additional monitoring of the railway infrastructure over the upcoming holiday season. The reason for this are the frequent cases of intentionally placed objects on the railway tracks, which constitute some of the main reasons for accidents.
The letter to the Minister of Interior Boyko Rashkov said the goal was to increase the safety of trains, save the lives and health of passengers and prevent damage to cargo.
"Since the beginning of the year, 17 cases of collisions with objects placed on the rails have been registered. In another 12 cases, the collision was avoided thanks to the timely actions of the operating staff of the National Railway Infrastructure Company", the document said.
The most frequent acts of vandalism were registered in the railway sections: Trud-Filipovo, Gorna Banya-Zaharna Fabrika, Nova Zagora-Khan Asparuh, Gavrailovo-Shivachevo.
Minister Nikolay Sabev wishes all Bulgarians a safe journey and happy holidays!
