The Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rossen Jeliazkov attended the signing of a contract between BDZ management team and Siemens Tron for the delivery of 10 new electric locomotives.
"By signing this contract, BDZ will secure the supply of new locomotives for the first time since 1986-1987. This is the first serious investment in the renewal of the company's traction rolling stock since 15 years, when in the period 2005-2008 Siemens locomotives were delivered, " the minister said. He thanked the BDZ team for the efforts, noting that all business processes in the company so far are consistent and efficient.
"I believe that BDZ Passenger Transport has the opportunity to become a well-functioning European-type company with renewed rolling stock, focused on providing quality service to passengers. This is a structural sector for transport and the trend for development and modernization of the railway service in Bulgaria should and will continue, despite the challenges", said Rossen Jeliazkov.
The contract is worth BGN 55,544,816.10 without VAT, and the proposed price for the execution of the contract is lower than the announced estimated value in the procedure in the amount of BGN 57.5 million without VAT.
The price includes the value of the Siemens Smartron locomotives, technical support and all necessary spare parts and consumables for a period of 3 years and 600 thousand km, as well as transport, insurance and commissioning. The warranty period for the maintenance of the locomotives has been increased to 36 months, and training of the repair and maintenance staff of BDZ will be conducted to ensure their long-term maintenance.
The delivery of the first locomotive will be completed by the end of February 2021, and all ten locomotives will be in the depots of the national railway carrier by the end of May 2021.
