We insist again for the legislative proposals on the individual Mobility Package I files to be reviewed at first reading. This was stated by the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rossen Jeliazkov after a working meeting with the newly elected Bulgarian MEPs and representatives of the the transport industry. "I have received the assurance of the Bulgarian MEPs that they will make what is necessary for this to happen together with the representatives of the other Member States of the like-minded group after the formation of the new Chairmanship Board," he added.
"On our behalf, within the Council, we will seek the support of other countries with similar views on the different components of the legislative proposal, thus seeking the opportunity to expand the like-minded group," added Minister Jeliazkov.
With regard to the future European Parliament's Committee on Transport and Tourism, the Minister noted that two of the rapporteurs, who were currently in charge of posting and working time issues, namely Merja Kyllönen and Vim van de Camp, are no longer MEPs and there will be new rapporteurs. It is also expected that the Transport Committee will have a changed composition.
We have three fields of action - on the one hand, the Council, on the other hand, the EP and the Transport Committee respectively and as a third party the industry. It is very important to make an appropriate assessment of the effect of the legislative proposals at all three levels, which will serve as an argument for the optimization of the dossiers, "said Rossen Jeliazkov.
He added that there is enough time to make relevant assessments and to convince both the Commission and the Parliament of the need for balanced texts. Also, meetings with key figures from the new EP have already been requested, as well as with the new Transport Committee Chair. Also, talks with Finland's Transport Minister are planned as Finland shall be the future EU Council President since July 1.
