The new Terminal 3 project is a step towards the modern Sofia Airport that we as a country and a society expect and deserve. This was said by the Minister of Transport and Communications Krasimira Stoyanova during the presentation of the conceptual design of the future Terminal 3. The event was attended by the CEO of Meridiam Investment Fund, Thierry Déau, and the project was presented by the CEO of SOF Connect, Jesús Caballero.
"The Ministry of Transport and Communications follows a sustainable policy regarding the development of the airport infrastructure and part of this policy is attracting large investors, such as the concessionaire of Sofia Airport," Minister Stoyanova said. In her words, this is yet another proof that when the state and the private investor lend a hand in a successful partnership, the results are good.
"The new Terminal 3 will be fully in line with our membership in the Schengen area by air," Minister Stoyanova pointed out and said that thanks to Schengen over 400 million people travel freely without passing border controls. "We all hope that soon we will be congratulated with the abolition of the land border controls and the overcoming of this obstacle," Stoyanova added.
Jesús Caballero said the project is worth BGN 500 million and the new terminal will be the first 5-star regional airport in Europe. The combined Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 will be interconnected and have a capacity for 20 million passengers per year. The design of the new terminal is inspired by Bulgarian nature and its colours. The building will consist of 3 levels and a total of 34 exits to aircraft.
