MTC discussed with port operators common actions to stop overloaded trucks

Joint action to stop access of overloaded trucks to ports on the Danube and the Black Sea. This was discussed at a meeting of the Deputy Ministers of Transport and Communications Anna Natova and Dimitar Nedyalkov with representatives of the state and private port operators in the country. The aim of the measures is to improve road safety and protect transport infrastructure, said Deputy Minister Anna Natova.

Deputy Minister Dimitar Nedyalkov informed that talks are underway with the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works to use the scales of the toll system built into the roads to control the compliance with the maximum allowed weight of cargo. "The data currently shows that about 40% of the trucks on the roads are overloaded. With a permissible mass of 40 tonnes, vehicles weighing 60 tonnes pass through the toll scales, which are currently operating in test mode," Deputy Minister Nedyalkov added.

Anna Natova and Dimitar Nedyalkov were adamant that with the upcoming unified actions, there will be no negative economic consequences for the port terminal operators. A document on mutual partnership between the Ministry of Transport and Communications and all port operators in the country is to be prepared shortly.
