The Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications and the Transport Community will work together to complete Corridor VIII. This was stated in the framework of the meeting between the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Hristo Alexiev and Matej Zakonjšek, Director of the Transport Community Permanent Secretariat dealing with the Western Balkans transport connectivity.
"The goal is to give impetus to the development of activities related to the construction of sustainable road and railway infrastructure along Corridor VIII", Minister Alexiev said.
In turn, the representatives of the Transport Community stated their readiness to support the efforts for the implementation of the project in terms of funding at the European Commission level.
The Minister pointed out that the route would lead to better transport and economic connectivity, as well as to improvement of the efficiency of transport services. "On Bulgarian territory, Corridor VIII passes along the route Gyueshevo border checkpoint - Pernik - Sofia - Plovdiv - Burgas / Varna. In general, the infrastructure is in good condition and many projects are being implemented for its modernization", Hristo Alexiev added.
In the framework of the meeting, the possibilities for development of Corridor X were discussed, as well as the opportunities of expanding the pilot project "Green Lanes" to contribute to the development of connectivity in the Balkans.
