Representatives of the European Commission visited several infrastructure sites in the Burgas area within the second regular meeting of the Transport Connectivity Programme Monitoring Committee. The event took place from 7 to 9 June 2023 in Burgas.
During the Committee meeting, the implementation of projects for the period 2014 to 2020 was reviewed and options to address risks were discussed to avoid loss of funds. Participants discussed additional alternative projects as well as opportunities for phasing current projects between OP Transport and Transport Infrastructure and the Transport Connectivity Programme.
The participants of the Committee and the representatives of the EC visited the Vladimir Pavlov railway station, where construction works have been carried out to enable cargo to be transported directly between the railway station and the port area.
The Burgas bypass was also considered — a road section that takes transit traffic out of the city. This reduces congestion and emissions, saves travel time and increases road safety.
The tour included a visit to the port of Burgas, where the new quay was presented and a real-time demonstration of the vessel traffic management system was made.
