The last part of the western section of the Sofia bypass will be opened on 14 September. This became clear after today's inspection of the site, which was attended by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova, the Chairman of the Board of the Agency "Road Infrastructure" eng. Lazar Lazarov, representatives of the Managing Authority of OP "Transport and transport infrastructure "and the contractor of the project.
The construction of the second part with a total length of 5.3 km, was launched in October 2015 with funding under OP "Transport" 2007-2013. With the conclusion of the programming period at the end of 2015 incomplete activities were transferred for funding under the new OP "Transport and transport infrastructure." Thus building the entire second part of the western section is carried out with European funding. The total value of allocations under both programs for the second part of the section amounts to 115 million levs.
The western section of the Sofia bypass is a continuation of the "Lyulin" highway and is part of a Corridor №4 of the Trans-European Transport Network. The direction is strategic for traffic passing through Sofia, as well as for transit traffic in the country.
