The Ministry of Transport and Communications proposes for the two parties to start work on the signing of an intergovernmental agreement, which shall settle the issues on the preparation, construction and operation of the cross-border railway connection, part of Corridor VIII.

With regard to the latest statement by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport of the Republic of North Macedonia Nikoloski on Corridor VIII, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Bulgaria notes with regret, but without surprise, that it represents yet another political intrigue and abuse of Bulgaria's constructive approach. His statement in front of the the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia, according to which Bulgaria had rejected the proposal for a meeting in Skopje is a lie and a manipulation.

The Department for Transport and Communications is committed to achieving an efficient transport system that combines all modes of transport in a balanced way. This was stated by Deputy Minister Zhivko Petrov at the opening of a thematic day "Urbanization, Transport and Tourism" in the Bulgarian pavilion within the framework of the COP 29 Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Investments in railway infrastructure on the lines of Corridor VIII Sofia-Plovdiv-Burgas and Karnobat-Sindel-Varna exceed BGN 3 billion. This includes all projects already implemented and those underway. We are actively working to finalise the implementation of the 2.4 km rail link project with RSM, which is earmarked for funding under the Transport Connectivity Programme 2021-2027. Both the Cohesion Fund and the Connecting Europe Facility are used to achieve this objective. The construction of Corridor VIII has been a consistent and long-standing policy of the Ministry. 

An agreement has been signed for the delivery of 5 more new ŠKODA electric trains

Minister of Transport and Communications Krasimira Stoyanova and Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Operating Officer of Skoda Transportation and Skoda Wagon Peter Novotny signed an additional agreement for the delivery of 5 more electric multiple unit trains. The ceremony was held at the Ministry of Transport and Communications in the presence of H.E. Miroslav Toman, Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Sofia.

For the first time, the Transport Connectivity Programme will finance the purchase of new rolling stock. On Thursday, we are going to sign an additional agreement with Skoda for 5 more electric multiple unit trains to the already signed contract for 20 trains. This was announced by the Minister of Transport and Communications Krasimira Stoyanova during the Monitoring Committee of the Transport Connectivity Programme 2021-2027, held today in Sofia.

On 31 October 2024, a pre-planned technical meeting was held between the Directors-General of Railway Infrastructure Undertakings of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia. The meeting discussed and specified only technical issues for the completion of the Deve Bair cross-border tunnel, as well as the need to select a single contractor for the entire facility.

As of today, DG Civil Aviation Administration (DG CAA) starts issuing electronic documents for 46 of their administrative services. This was announced by the Minister of Transport and Communications Krasimira Stoyanova during the conference "International Connectivity - the Key for Sustainable Growth of Bulgarian Tourism", which is held in Sofia.

Representatives of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia participated in a working meeting to discuss the Corridor 8 railway project. The meeting planned for 16.10.2024 in Brussels took place today in Sofia. The parties exchanged information, outlined the timeframe and shared their experiences on technical issues and topics related to the construction of Corridor 8, and in particular the procedures for the implementation and future operation of the Deve Bair cross-border tunnel facility.

The new information system for the digitisation of documents related to theoretical and practical training has been developed in a test mode and was presented today to the sectoral organisations in the sector.

Each exercise leads to an improvement in the coordination and capabilities of the different units, and the basis of any emergency rescue activity is good coordination to reduce response times. This was said by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Zhivko Petrov during an exercise "Search and rescue in case of an aviation accident and liquidation of its consequences along the coastal strip - SAREX-24", held on the territory of Ruse region - "Stulpishte" area (along the R. Danube).

"This is an extremely important initiative for Bulgaria and I am glad that we meet your support and understanding for it. It is important not only that the front door of the country has a name, but also that it is the name of the most significant and greatest European of Bulgaria - Vasil Levski", said Prof. Levski. Semov at the beginning of the meeting, which took place today at the Ministry of Transport and Communications at the invitation of Minister Krasimira Stoyanova.

Four projects with Bulgarian participants will be funded by the Connecting Europe Facility with a total of 12 million euros. "For the team of the Ministry of Transport and Communications as the national coordinator of the digital sector of the Mechanism, it is important that all four projects with which our organizations applied won funding," said Minister Krasimira Stoyanova.
